Spiral Publishing authors Kari Kilgore and Jason A. Adams have put together an exclusive bundle of four fiction stories set in May and springtime, and available this May at a special price! Check out the stories below, and be sure to grab your bundle of May Reads before it disappears at the end of the month!

May brings seasons of togetherness in graduations, the beginning of summer vacation for many, and often the start of family cookout and reunion time. So the stories this month focus on the different ways we create, celebrate, and sometimes learn to tolerate families. Jason and Kari dive into this fascinating topic with tales of fantasy, ghosts, crime, and portals through time.

Our furry friends can certainly be members of our family units, no matter how unusual their tastes in aromas. Foster parents everywhere do incredible and vital work in providing a much-needed home base. Turning to more traditional arrangements, not everyone had an idyllic experience with their families of origin. Contact from beyond the grave might turn out to be a living nightmare. And once in a while, ties of blood and relations can't withstand dreadful behavior.

We hope you enjoy our special, limited-time bundle of genre-spanning stories, and check back next month for your fresh batch of Spiral Publishing's Monthly Reads!

Dirty Laundry by Jason A. Adams

Don’t Yuck Someone Else’s Yum

Jeff’s companion suffers from a strange condition.

Comina the Cat loves dirty clothes, the smellier the better.

But sometimes treasures hide inside the laundry basket.

When a valued ring goes missing, will Comina save the day?

An excerpt from Dirty Laundry:

Jeff saw Comina walk past the bathroom door, bushy black tail held high, waddling along on wide-spread legs as she dragged one of his manky tube socks along under her belly.

“Cat, that’s pretty gross, y’know.”

Comina graced him with a look that told him to mind his business, then dropped the sock so she could roll around on it like the grubby tube was the finest Colombian catnip, making sure to smear as much foulness over her long black fur as possible while Jeff got into his jeans and another t-shirt.

Must’ve already finished shoving her head down in his sneakers. Why that silly animal adored B.O. so much was truly beyond Jeff’s simple human reckoning.

Ghosts, Guilt, and Gingerbread by Jason A. Adams

It’s never too late to apologize.

Of all the things Avery Stanley inherited, two things top the list.

The old Stanley Ridge homeplace, and his Ma’s gingerbread recipe.

Unfortunately, Avery never quite gets it right.

Ma won’t rest easy until he does. Neither will anyone else.

Will his latest batch take the cake, and the ribbon?

An excerpt from Ghosts, Guilt, and Gingerbread:

“It’s about your ma, son. You got to help me out with her.”

Oh, boy.

Avery leaned on the rail beside his pop, tucking his own hands in his pockets. He’d never caught it before, but aside from the hair they sure did look alike.

Well, except for the lightning-bug teeth.

“Let me guess. Ma’s still running around like you.”

A shrug of ghostly-but-solid shoulders.

“Poutin’ around, more like. She’s feeling mighty left out, you forgetting her special day and all.”

“Special…”

Sunday. Second one in May.

Avery groaned. “Mother’s Day. Yeah, I forgot all about it.”
