I’m Pulpy Again!

August 24, 2022 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

Well, not that it’s a big shocker on the personal pulpiness. But I also have a story in the new issue of Pulphouse Magazine, along with a bunch of super-talented company!

The story “Like a Hole in the Head” is told by Harvey Millford, your friendly neighborhood sanitation engineer who recently had a very bad day. I like to think of it as a thematic representation of suburban angst and ennui, and…

Sorry, old college classes creeping in. The story is simply fun. No deeper meaning, no commentary on the problems of the modern world, no moralizing. I promise.

Click here to check out the official page, and here to learn more about Pulphouse Magazine. Check out all the issues. You won’t be disappointed, even with the ones I’m not in.

A Little Something for the Holidays!

. WMG2020HolidaySpectacular

Hey, everyone!

I wanted to let you know about the upcoming Holiday Spectacular from WMG Publishing. This is a great way to read some good stories during the holidays! Subscribers get a new short story in their inbox every day from November 26, 2020 through January 1, 2021. Plus more for Valentine’s Day and Halloween next year.

Kari Kilgore and I both have stories in the winter holiday calendar. Kari also has one in the 2021 Valentine’s Day calendar, and I’ll have another in the 2021 Halloween calendar.

Rather than me blathering on, I’ll simply ask that you check out all the details on the project’s Kickstarter page. While you’re there, consider chipping in a buck or two for this fantastic endeavor. You’ll help it get out in the world, and you’ll be supporting a bunch of incredible writers.

And who knows? You might just find your next favorite author, and have a new story to re-read time and again.

Crime! Murder! Thievery! All Sorts of Fun Stuff!

August 25, 2020 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

The squirrels have donned their Sherlock hats and have magnifying glasses at the ready for a brand new series of mystery anthologies “So Criminal, It’s Good.” Mystery, Crime, and Mayhem features stories by yours truly, Kari Kilgore, and a whole slew of incredibly wonderful writers. I’ve enjoyed every story so far, but I promise I’m not getting any…er…ideas.

Issue Number 1: Private Eyes, introduces Kari’s Appalachian tale “The Definition of Crime,” with a private detective coming home to investigate a tough missing person case.

In Issue 2 – Thieves: In “Bobby and Pete,” we meet a mild-mannered shopkeeper and the homeless man who teaches him that those who steal don’t always deserve a trip to the slammer.

Issue 3 – The Chase Begins: Two Las Vegas homicide detectives encounter “Fresh Blood and Old Music” on Fremont Street.

Kari also contributes stories to Private Eyes, Thieves, and The Chase Begins, and we both return for Issue 4: Sins of the Father, due out in November.

I hope you’ll venture over to www.MCM-Magazine.com, where you can learn more about our fabulous writer Syndicate and be the first to know about upcoming issues.

Good Acorns in the Squirrel Tree!

March 14, 2020 By Jason Adams Leave a Comment

A lot has been happening for yours truly and Spiral Publishing. Kari and I went to the WMG Anthology Workshop last month, and had a blast.

For those who don’t know, the Anthology Workshop is an annual get together of writers and anthology editors. Between the regular eight stories for the various anthology calls, Kickstarter rewards, and other workshop stories, we both went with eleven new tidbits and watched while seven editors discussed, argued over, and occasionally stole from each other. We sat with forty two other writers and sweated, cheered, and applauded as each story came up. Kari sold five, I sold four, and we both have two more in consideration.

So yeah, I’d call that a success!

On the home front, I’ve recently published four new short stories standalone, and collected these four and three of my previously published stories into a new collection, Tales from the Squirrel Garden, Volume 1. This collection also includes a short piece not published anywhere else, a delightfully dark story called Swift’s. The whole collection contains stories of a darker bent than some of my other work, but rest assured. In at least two of the stories, things turn out well for the heroes.

I really enjoyed the challenge of organizing and publishing a collection. There’s a bit of a learning curve when it comes to compiling multiple works into a single volume, but I had a great mentor at home to help me through the challenge, and I’m plumb tickled with the result.

Keep an eye on the Brain Squirrels. We’ll be announcing a couple of publications in Pulphouse Magazine in the next few months, as well as a couple of stories in a couple of Holiday Spectaculars. Vague, I know, but more shall be revealed when the moment is opportune.

And finally, Zortea wants me to remind you all that in this time of uncertainty, it’s important to relax.
